UPDATE! New FAA regulations imposed on Drones and Quadcopters
If you’ve been using a drone or are thinking about it you need to know what the FAA is doing to regulate drone use, pilot and drone registration and how it can affect you as an agent or photographer. Here’s a short update on the FAA’s position on drone use in real estate:
The Federal Aviation Administration is warning real estate agents who fly their own drones to take pictures or videos of listings that they are not engaged in a “hobby or recreation,” meaning that the FAA could attempt to take enforcement actions against them if they and their aircraft have not been certified as experimental or commercial operators. – Source: Inman
While this might be very unpopular with hobbyists and the industry is trying to figure out just how to move forward the consequences for violations and action against you as a professional could be much more severe. It would be wise to read and be informed on the new rules and steps you need to take to comply.
Quadcopters aren’t going anywhere, but some safety on the part of operators is only prudent.
